Comprehensive guide to rigging hardware traceability and certification under EN 10204 Type 3.1: raised forged markings, batch heat codes, proof-load verification, and CE conformity.

In overhead lifting and rigging, an uncertified component with missing or unreadable markings is legally and operationally classified as an unsafe hazard. In international maritime logistics, port terminal handling, and oil and gas operations, statutory compliance requires complete, unbroken **cradle-to-grave traceability** for every piece of below-the-hook hardware. Under international standards—such as **EN 10204**, **ASME B30.26**, and **ISO 9001**—rigging accessories must feature permanent forged markings and be accompanied by authentic mill inspection certificates. Riggers, safety managers, and procurement officers must understand how to audit hardware markings and verify manufacturer documentation. ## Mandatory Forged Markings on Certified Rigging Hardware Every certified alloy shackle, hook, master link, and eyebolt must feature legible, raised or indented forged markings stamped directly onto the body: 1. **Manufacturer's Name or Trademark:** Unambiguously identifies the certified manufacturer (e.g., Crosby, Green Pin, Gunnebo, Van Beest). 2. **Working Load Limit (WLL):** Clearly stamped in metric tonnes or US short tons (e.g., "WLL 8.5t"). 3. **Traceability Code (Heat / Batch Number):** A unique alphanumeric code linked directly to the steel heat chemical analysis and proof-test documentation. 4. **Nominal Size:** Forged size indicator (e.g., "1"", "25mm"). 5. **Steel Grade Designation:** Indicated by grade symbols (e.g., "Grade 80", "G8", "Grade B", or "10"). 6....
